Vehicle Policies

At Big Island Overlander, we want your adventure to be smooth, safe, and enjoyable. Please review the following policies before booking your vehicle.

Driver Requirements
• Renters must be at least 25 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Your driver’s license and proof of full coverage insurance are required before pickup.

Off-Road and Driving Guidelines
• Our vehicles are allowed on well-traveled, established paved and unpaved roads only.
• Driving is limited to roads that appear on Google Maps.
• Intense off-roading scenarios such as river crossings or rock crawling, and driving on unmarked routes is not permitted.

Vehicle Use
• No smoking, pets, or eating is allowed inside the vehicle or rooftop tent.
• Keep the interior clean. Excessive dirt, sand, food spills, or trash may result in a cleaning fee.
• Return the vehicle with a full tank of gas.

Pickup and Return
• Check-in time is 3:00 PM unless otherwise arranged.
• Return time is 11:00 AM unless scheduled differently.
• Late returns will be charged $50 per hour.

Insurance and Responsibility
• Renters must have full coverage insurance that applies to rental vehicles. If unavailable, supplemental insurance must be purchased.
• Renters are financially responsible for any damage, loss, or theft during the rental period.
• Responsibility includes damage to camping gear, the rooftop tent, and the camper shell.

Roadside Assistance
• Contact us immediately for any mechanical issues.
• Basic roadside support is included. Costs may be charged to the renter if the issue is due to negligence, such as running out of fuel, locking keys inside the vehicle, or off-road damage.

Cancellations and Refunds
• Cancel 14 or more days before the rental start date for a full refund.
• Cancel 7 to 13 days before the rental start date for a 50 percent refund.
• Cancellations made less than 7 days before the rental are non-refundable.
• No refunds for early returns or unused rental days.

Additional Fees
• Cleaning fee of $100 may apply if the interior is returned excessively dirty.
• Smoking, pet violations, or the use of air fresheners to mask smoke will result in a $350 fee.
